Following the first Marathon of Afghanistan, filmmaker Kate McKenzie and legendary runner Martin Purnell were inspired to take part in the event themselves, and tell the story. This produced the fantastic movie ‘The Secret Marathon’ and the (virtual) Global Premiere is taking place over the weekend of 29-31 January.
They also created an annual Secret 3k run to support runners in Afghanistan, and that will be taking place on 3 March.
Do catch the film if you can, as the global premiere will help the marathon become bigger and better in the future. And we hope you’ll be able to take part in the 3K too, wherever you are in the world. With the help of the Afghan Sports Trust, it will make a huge difference for the Marathon of Afghanistan.
